Passio Sanctae Felicitatis, or the value of freedom
Italy, 2022 - 8 minutes
Felicita is a Roman matron, who lives a pious life dedicated to helping the underprivileged. This does not go down well to the pagan priests, who ask Emperor Antoninus Pius for a trial to test her faith. Felicita refuses to give in to pressure from the judge Publius, who in order to convince her in extremis also brings her seven children to court. They all refuse to abdicate their faith. Before their mother’s eyes, the sons are tortured and killed. Her head falls last.
How far is one’s freedom worth? What is the difference between being unfree and dying?
